This side of the river flows out from the Bear Cave, descending towards lower elevation as it continues west. The river zig-zags across the land, giving the impression that it is shorter than it really is. Straightened out, the river would be longer than the island itself. The river is a source of life, as various species of plants grow along it's banks. The river freezes over in many areas during the cold winter months and serves as a natural bridge for animals to cross.
